At William Bellamy, we believe that Physical Education has a central role to play in the development of children. As a school which has recently been awarded healthy schools status, we see Physical Education as an ideal vehicle to support our status as a healthy school, as well as developing key skills as set out in the National Curriculum. Furthermore, we believe that Physical Education should be stimulating and enjoyable through the provision of well planned and delivered lessons.

Exciting things in half term

Dear Parents,

We are excited to let you know about some fun free family activities happening this half term and the chance to win a bike by completing an online survey.

Learn to Ride Get onto two wheels without stabilisers!

Thursday 20th Feb Sessions from 10am

Location; The session takes place at Central Park, Gosfield Road entrance.

During the session we turn each bike into a balance bike by removing stabilisers and pedals. Once they’ve got their balance we put on the pedals and off they go! We restrict numbers at each session to ensure everyone gets the support they need. To take part, each rider will need to bring a bike.  We check bikes beforehand but the bike must be in good working condition, in particular it must have effective brakes. It would be helpful if you could remove the pedals and any stabilisers before arrival, but we will do this if necessary.

Booking is essential.  Book on this link https://learntoride.eventbrite.co.uk

Walk, Talk & Make

Friday 21st Feb Meet at 1pm

Location; Meet at CU London Car Park, walk around Central Park

Walk; Join us for a 45 minute leisurely walk through Central Park, in Becontree.

Talk; Share memories about the local area and get to know people in your community

Make; jewellery made from recycled bike parts, enjoy a cuppa and a chin wag.

Booking is essential. Book on this link https://becontreewalktalkmake1.eventbrite.co.uk

Win a Bike by tell us about the local area

Do you live, work or study near the Fiddlers Junction, in Becontree? Tell us how you travel around the area and be in with a chance of winning a brand new bike.  Survey closes 28th February 2020.

A special message from Fatima Whitbread

Well done to everyone that took part in helping your school succeed in winning your first borough athletics competition. Good luck when you represent Barking and Dagenham in the  London Youth Games qualifiers on Tuesday.

Enjoy the experience.
Kind regards
Fatima

Fatima Whitbread is a British former javelin thrower who is a two-time Olympic medallist. She won the 1986 European Championships in Stuttgart, having broken the world record with a throw of 77.44 metres in the qualifying round the previous day.

Indoor Athletics

Athletics Team came 1st place in Barking and Dagenham and will now go to Crystal Palace to represent Barking and Dagenham. We are so proud of all of you.

Congratulation William Bellamy Girls' Football Team. Another excellent win William Bellamy 1 Godwin 0

William Bellamy 7 aside Football go through as group stage winners in the Jim Smith Cup

William Bellamy's Sports Hall Athletics Team win First Place in the Second Round.

The team of 15 boys and 12 girls from years 5 and 6 travelled to Sydney Russell to compete in the second round of the borough competition. The field events included standing long jump, standing triple jump, vertical jump, speed bounce, javelin and chest push. The track events included 1 lap relay, 2 lap relay, 6 lap parluff relay, 4x1 relay, obstacle relay and the over and under relay. The team started the competition with 2 great wins from the girls and the boys obstacle race. As the races continued the pressure was on, the team were scoring many points but so were the other schools. In some of the field events some of the pupils achieved their PB including Lilly and Lillian in speed bounce, Adetoun and Esther in long jump. We will have to wait until the results are through to see if anyone else scored a PB.

As the results were announced, their was a silence and the compare announced the last 4 places, Ripple in 4th, Warren in 3rd which only left William Bellamy and Beam County. We had been in this position for many previous years with Beam. As second place was announced as Beam County, our team realised they had won. It was a truly amazing moment. We were announced winners of the second round. We now have to wait until all of the results from the other rounds are emailed over to see where we are placed across the whole borough.

Well Done William Bellamy Athletics Team, we are so proud.

Another Amazing Win for William Bellamy's Girls' Football Team

William Bellamy 4 Ripple Primary 1

A strong performance by the girls even though they were worried about not having all of their team attending the game. This performance proved that the girls have courage and determination, the passing and play was excellent providing the ball to Adetoun (On her debut) who throughout the game scored all 4 goals. Unfortunate, the girls didn't keep a clean sheet and the pressure was still on as the Ripple girls did not give up. An excellent game of football from both teams.

Win for William Bellamy

William Bellamy girls 6 Roding Hewitt girls 0

The girls' football making an excellent comeback when playing Roding Hewitt Primary. They were ready for the win today and they did not disappoint. The defence were strong helping our goal keeper keep a clean sheet. The passing and communication between players is improving week after week. The game ended with another 6-0 win. Well done to all who played.

Our Girls' Football Team's First Defeat

William Bellamy 1 Richard Albion 5

Our Girls team had their first defeat again Richard Albion. The game began and we were the first team to score but it did not take too long before Albion got one back. The game continued with excellent play on both sides. Just before the half time whistle Richard Albion scored their second making it 2-1 at half time. Our girls fought hard but were unable to get back in the game and the score ended 5-1. A learning curve for our team.

Girls win 3-0 against St Peters in the Monteagle Sheild competition

Girls Win 6-0 against Five Elms in the Ballez League

The girls' football team won their first two games with an exceptional performance. The team went from strength to strength, improving their understanding of positioning. As the games continued, the goals began to be scored. Kara had an amazing game, scoring 6 out of the 9 goals scored. The team continued to support each other by playing some excellent football. Well done to all of you!
Well done to two of our families who are some of the most active families within our borough. Check out Street Tag for more information.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and the school is delighted to have been recognised for our success.

The Dagenham-based school’s sporting achievements this year include gold, silver and bronze medallists at a number of borough competitions for pupils in each school year, including athletics, cross country, panathlon challenge, tag rugby, hockey, cricket and football.

All pupils participated in a range of intra competitions throughout the school year with many of them going on to represent the school in the inter competitions.

The schools’ young sports leader programme proved particularly positive allowing pupils to deliver activities throughout lunch and break-times; increasing the physical activities of our pupils and improving lunchtime behaviour.

This included the Ultimate Personal Challenge, Active Sheds, Sport specific activities and other sessions, such as our Fairy Fitness.

A school statement said: “With an increased total of young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.”

Donna Rose, PE and School Sports Specialist, added: “I feel so lucky to work with such amazing pupils.

“Their passion, perseverance and dedication to becoming ‘the best that they can be’ are so inspiring. I love watching the pupils develop as young sports leaders, officials and participants in sports, and how they become excellent communicators and role models for the younger pupils.”

As part of their application, they were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and were pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.
