Welcome to Year 4!
See what areas of learning
are going to be discovering this term by checking out the
Do you know who this is?
(Year 4 found out during their investigation into the
Secret Past of Dagenham.)
The Water cycle.
Year 4 are investigating the water cycle. We want to know where our water comes form and where it goes.
We created our own mini water cycle in the classroom.
We used cardboard for mountains and planted seeds in to soil to represent the trees.
Wait and see what happened....
The seeds grew and were watered by the condensation as it dropped down. Water then collected at the bottom of the tray. We made displays around the school to share what happened.
Can you find one?
What a fabulous start to the term.
We have already been thinking about being health by having a little look to see where our food comes from.
Secrets of Old Dagenham
We began our topic by looking at some old maps of Dagenham.
Then we used maps and a compass to have a look around our local area.
Just before the end of the spring term, Year 4 created their own WB Carnival.
We learned how to play the drums
We made a WB special version of carnival food.
As we are a healthy school, this was based on fruit, but with some very special additions. It was served 'Street Style' on sticks.
We put on a carnival
for our families and friends.
Spring Term Part 2
We have already started our spring work and are looking forward to some interesting discoveries.
We began week 2 of the term with a celebration of Mardi Gras.
4 Green and 4 Vert shared a PE lesson to celebrate Mardi Gras. Many of the children know that on one Tuesday in the year we may eat pancakes, but did not know that this is in celebration of 'Fat Tuesday' or Shrove Tuesday. It is a time to empty the house of all luxuries and treats ready the beginning of Lent which is preparation for Easter.
We shared a lesson and had a pancake race!
We danced our carnival dance like no one was looking!
WORLD BOOK DAY
Friday 7th March
How will you spend your day?
Year 4 have some great activities planned so please ask the children what happened to their day!
At the beginning of the Spring term, Year 4 found out how high they would go.
We will be looking at describing and understanding how mountains are made. We are going to try and find mountains in different countries and what features they have. To help us we will use maps and atlases, learning the points of the compass.
