William Bellamy Primary School We learn... We grow... Together

The Voice/Parent Forum Archive: 2015-2016

The next Voice meeting will be held on Monday 7th March at 3.30pm.  To be held in'The Cabin' in KS1.  Please feel free to have a chat to Yvonne or James to discuss further.

'The Voice'

The Voice is a fundraising committee run by staff and parents of William Bellamy Primary School. The Voice plays lots of different roles within the school.  We organise all sorts of exciting events for our pupils, staff and families and through these events raise lots of money.  This helps provide additional opportunities and resources to enhance the lives of the children and families in our school.

All parents automatically become members of The Voice when their child joins the school and are invited and welcomed to become more active members by joining our fortnightly coffee mornings.

The school is indebted to the work of The Voice and all those who support our school. We would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you for the tireless and energetic work which goes into making our fundraising committee so successful!

If you would like to be part of this committed and hardworking team, then please speak to Yvonne Alexander (Child and Family Professional) or James Singh (Events Coordinator).  They are in either the KS1 or KS2 playground every morning.

Save the children : Fundraising project called ' Den Day'

Save the children is a charity that works around the world to make children's lives better. This year they are setting up a new project called Den Day.

This summer they are organising a fundraising activity encouraging families and schools to build the den of their dreams - and by getting sponsored to build their super shelters at school or at home, they'll be making life better for children who don't have a safe place to sleep tonight.

To help them tell people about this exciting new project. They contacted James to organise a photo-shoot at William Bellamy Primary School, which took place on Thursday 12th February. They took pictures of pupils building their dens- out of cardboard boxes, chairs, tables, blankets and sheets - and also playing in the dens.

20 of our pupils took part in the photo shoot. The photo session will provide Save the Children with lots of pictures showing children having fun building and playing in their dens. These will help them to excite and encourage other people to get involved, to build their own dens and raise money.

The pictures could be used in leaflets, posters, newsletters, magazines, on the internet, in newspapers and in other media all over the UK for their Den Day project in the summer 2015.

If you go on http://denday.savethechildren.org.uk You will see some of the pictures of our pupils on this site.

Tescos Farm to Fork Project

Our pupils have been lucky enough to visit our local Tescos at Roneos Corner where they became Greengrocers for the afternoon.  During the visit pupils learnt about where our food comes from and how sustainable different food types are.  We are very grateful to Tesco for this on-going project.

Valence House

WB will be taking part in a government pilot scheme to encourage healthy eating at home and at school.  Valence House will be supporting us by donating a Ranger to the school for one year.  The Ranger will educate and advise the children on growing fruit and vegetables.  We look forward to starting this project.

PREVIOUS EVENTS

Travelling Book Shop

In February the Travelling Book Fair came to our school.  Parents were able to buy the latest books available for their children.

McCain Seed to Plate Project

At William Bellamy Primary we have been learning about where our food comes from.  Linking in with our 'Grow It, Cook It, Eat It' project, the Managing Director of McCains Potato Project was invited to come and talk to us.

McCain (potatoes) donated potato seeds and tools to each class in the school.  This allowed the children to learn first-hand how to grow and harvest potatoes.

This proved to be a fantastic experience and we held a competition to see which class had the biggest potato yield.  Our potatoes were then used by our talented cooks to make some delicious recipes including potato flapjacks, and potato and beetroot chocolate brownies.

We celebrated this in a special assembly with some important visitors including Helen Jenner, Director of Children's Services, the Lord Mayor and the Managing Director of McCains.

Miss Preston, our Headteacher, said, "We believe that the good health and wellbeing of our pupils is essential to their educational development.  The potato growing project is an entertaining and educational way of helping their young minds to understand, through practical involvement, where food comes from and how tasty and nutritious fresh vegetables can be".

Spring term disco's 2014

6th February - 14th February
As always the disco's proved really popular. The children had an amazing time.

Bird Talk Conservation

The children enjoyed a series of visits from Bird Talk. Bird Talk is a bird’s eye view conservation service who visits schools to talk about and show pupils different types of birds of prey.  Children also had the opportunity to have their picture taken by a professional photographer.

World Book Day

On Thursday 6th March William Bellamy Primary held a “World Book Day”.  This was a great opportunity for the children to support and enhance their reading skills.  The whole day was dedicated to different activities, which were all related to books. Children were encouraged to create their own costumes based on their favourite book character.

Family Portraits

On Saturday 24th May 2014 families were able to come along to the school for an opportunity to have some family photographs taken.

Sports Relief

WB participated in Sports Relief on the 21st March.  The children took part in a range of exciting sporting activities and raised money for a worthy cause, whilst having fun!
