They will hatch on 7th July

Picture 1

Day 1 - By the end of the first day's incubation, the head, eyes, nervous system and blood have

            started to form

Day 2 - The heart is formed and is functioning by 44 hours

Day 4 - The heart becomes a fully beating heart. Leg and wing buds begin to form. The amniotic

sack is produced, and the embryo will float in the amniotic fluid for the remainder of

            incubation.

Day6 - Legs and wings are almost complete.

Day 8-10 - Feathers are appearing. On the 9th day the embryo starts to look like a duckling. By

day 10 the bones are being formed.

Day 13 - The down is apparent and is coloured.

Day 16 - Beak, leg scales and claws are almost complete. The albumen is used up with just the

              yolk remaining.

Day 19 - The yolk is incorporated into the body. The beak forces it's way into the air cell at the

              large end of the egg.

On day 25-28 - The ducks will break through the outer shell with their beaks - known as

'pipping'. It will continue all the way round the shell until the end falls off. The

duckling will then kick out of the shell.
